Greetings from NYC!

Hi all - new here to the site and love all the information shared here.

I adopted a little Betta fish a year ago that was being used in our offices as a table prop for a celebrity gossip columnist...horrible! After a few celeb interviews, the little red betta was discarded and I took him home... I had a lot to learn! I only knew Bettas from seeing them in pet stores in those tiny little bowls... always felt so bad for them!

My little Betta prospered for a year with me (I studied a lot about Betta keeping) but unfortunately he jumped thru a small hole in his tank and passed away last weekend... he was a joy to have and I miss him... never knew how smart and responsive a Betta could be! He would greet me in front of his tank and follow me back and forth...looking for food I always suspected!

So, here I am... looking for another betta to love and enjoy! More to come on that soon, I hope!

My partner and I live on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and also have two Welsh Pembroke Corgis and two parrotlets... quite a zoo for a Manhattan apartment! But we love them all...

Really enjoyed my time here... look forward to learning more and seeing all the great posts & pics here!

Sorry to hear that you lost your little buddy :( I've lost 4 fish from my 75 gallon tank over the years when they decided to go on a suicide mission. It's amazing how small of an area they can project themselves through.

I finally put aluminum foil over all of the openings where the tubes come into the tank and haven't lost a fish for a while.

Good luck picking out your new betta and keep us posted.

Hi Yaoilover12397 - LI is very close, although I never get out there...

I am going to the aquarium store on the LES tomorrow, it's on Delancey Street and is evidently very good...

Hello and Welcome to the Forum! I was born and raised down in NYC and moved to upstate, NY 3 years ago, but still visit the city ALL the time! (Can never get enough).

Sounds like you definitely need to get another betta guy. It's hard to find a good LFS even in a relatively small berg like Cincinnati. We used to have them, but big box city has taken over. I would think that you guys have some very interesting shops to visit.

I'm originally from NYC - Queens, but I haven't lived there in over 20 years. I was in manhattan yesterday though.
