Well, as of today I finally have Bettas in my life again. Went out shopping after picking the kids up from karate camp. Went to Petco. Only option for many miles. Had my eye on a lovely CT red Cambodian female. But, she had sold by the time we were finished other shopping, lunch etc.
Instead came home with Elrond, my daughter's new fish, VT somewhere between Cambodian and multi, blue/purple with just a trace of red. Also Liberace, Plakat male, deep purple with white fins.
Pictures tomorrow, I hope.
Elrond is at home in tank next to the couch and is busy exploring the plants.
Liberace is in a temporary holding tank. Tomorrow I take him to work with me to become the "shop fish". So, after a night in a 1gal, it will be back in the cup for the drive. My plan is to ease the transition by using the water from the holding tank mixed with the conditioned water currently in the shop tank. Then water changes will gradually move it to all treated tap water.
Water at home is well water so no chlorine. Water at the shop is town water, often quite chlorinated, so it will breath in a bucket or the 1 gal tank for a couple of days to warm up, off gas chlorine and get conditioner. I run the shop water through Brita first anyway which helps with chlorine noticeably. Not that I would rely on a Brita for fish. Shop tank will get plants as well.
Both tanks have cups for the fish to hide in.
The Bettas make my goldfish and their tank look huge!
