I'm new here - just got a betta from petstore

I can't seem to take decent photos, but I did make a video of him. I am going thru the forums and getting answers to a lot of my questions about their care. Thanks to all who contribute. Here is my boy Dragon. Luckily I had a five gallon planted tank at home, used for plants only, and cycled filter, so he got a nice cycled jungle to play in right away.

Yes there is a terra cotta pot - are they bad for bettas? The plant can come out of the pot and go into the gravel, and I can take the pot out if its a bad thing.

No, it's not bad. Many of us use TC pots and stuff as caves to hide in, I've just never seen it used like that. I like it.

Ah good because its been in there with him for several days already. Should I make him a "cave" out of something or will he be happy with the plants? I have more pots.

I hadn't planned on getting a betta, I had been given the 5 gallon tank by a friend and I set it up a couple of weeks ago for some plants I had bought. I went by the store to get another water test kit for my goldfish and I couldn't leave him there in plastic cup, he was the last one left and people kept walking up and shaking his cup. He didn't move when I looked at him, and I didn't think he'd make it, but I got him and brought him home. An hour after floating in the tank in the cup, I released him, fed him some brine shrimp and he was happy and after a few days I think he looks pretty healthy.

I haven't had much success with caves. Mine liked to hide behind plants till they got comfortable living here, now thy just seem to like swimming under low hanging branches/ leaves like they're in a limbo contest. That's the only time they use the pots anymore, just to swim under to the other side.
