Im a new betta fish owner and I really need your help please! :)

I got my betta two days ago , and I got him a 2.5 gallon tank but my betta hates the filter so I unplugged it. but Im reading online that you need a 5 gallon with a heater, should I keep the one I have or change it?

You need a heater, but 2.5g is the minimum, so what you have is okay but if you want you could go bigger. A 25W adjustable heater is recommended. :)

you don't NEED 5 gallons. for most, the minimum is 2.5 gallons, but you do need a heater.

a heater is a good idea, but 2.5 should be good for one betta. i keep one in a 3 gallon, and currently keep 2 in a 1 gallon, but they are under quarantine. it's all about proper water changes with small tanks. yours would be 1 50% and one 100% weekly with a good gravel siphoning on one of them.

There's a sticky at the top of this board on baffling filters to slow the current down that may help you keep it. But a filter isn't required you would just have to do more water changes.

A 25W adjustable heater would be good for a 2.5g?

Yes, because then you can see what setting keeps your tank between 77-82F. :)
