blown fin??

Need an opinion. I may just be a nervous new mom, but I wanna make sure that my boy is ok. Want to know if you all think this looks more like a blown fin versus tail rot (dorsal fin towards the back). New to betta keeping and just wanna make sure to stay on top of his care. And for whatever this may be...recommendations on treatment if needed??

Thanks in advance!

Yup, looks like it may have gotten snagged on something or just really flaring/flapping of the fin as that area is a bit more vulnerable since it is the new growth. I would keep an eye on it to make sure it's not turning black or fuzzy. Just make sure the water is super clean. What a beautiful boy you have there!

Cheers!

Thanks for the opinions and compliments earthworm and myates! I really feel like a neurotic mother. But I don't want my little man to hurt whatsoever due to my naivete. Even though it looks like a tear I was concerned because the edges of his fins look a little more transparent or "thinner". And I read that could be one of the first signs of rot. Like I said neurotic mom! I'll make sure to do major water changes so that he can heal quickly. Thinking of buying some aquarium salt just in case. Thanks again guys!!!! :)

Welcome! And better to ask then to risk!

AQ salt is good to have around for emergencies.. new fin growth tends to be transparent, so that may be what you are seeing.
