So ammonia is .50 ppm and nitrite is at 0 ppm but nitrate is like at 2.5 ppm.
Going to do a 50% water change now.
Freda is still eating but still has clamped fins. Tank temp is 72.

The temp should be more around 76-80*F. He's most likely clamped due to the ammonia being at .5ppm. I'd do an 80% change instead of a 50%.

Im definitley checking the levels twice a day.
Tomorrow morn. I'll do another water change.
Thanks again everyone for the helpful posts and being understanding.
I'm embarrassed of my ignorance and hope Freda ends up a happy Betta!

Don't feel embarrassed. We've all been there. Cycling was something that came easily to me but for many new fish keepers it's hard to grasp. I agree with Nat though, a big water change like 80% would be good.

Twice daily testing probably isn't needed. If you want you can test before you change the water and then retest like an hour or two later to make sure the levels have changed.

Keeping a little notebook with your readings in it will really help.

Thanks:)
ammonia levels are down to .25
Unfortunately, she's darting around glancing off objects and I've spotted some white specks on her:(
Now I'm battling two dilemmas
I hope she makes it. I put a teaspoon of aquarium salt in her tank.
I have jungle ick guard II but am afraid to use it because I have two snails and a ghost shrimp. Maybe I'll just take out the snails and shrimp and then treat the tank. But now I'm getting off subject of this thread...
