Motherhood?

Well, sheldon ate almost all the eggs, and the ones that are in the nest/on the bottom have fungus on 'em...Maybe sheldons gettin old and can't fertilze them all anymore lol. He had one in...May or June I think (unfortunately something wiped the fry out, there was only like 15 so it wasn't awful), and he's got a spawn thats a few weeks old now so I'll just put him back in his tank and retire him lol. Hes so beautiful, he really is my pride and joy, but if its gunna carry on this way, I think its time for my old man to retire. haha. Here's one of his current fry, they're a couple weeks old in this photo. Theres only about 7 and don't like the camera lmao

Leaving the female with the male often leads to the male beating her more to protect the nest and loss of egg because she'll try to eat them.

Without the male in there she'll often, again, eat the eggs.
But, there are females who have been observed blowing their own nest and laying eggs and tending them without a male present. These are the females who should be used for the experiment and I read it being started one somewhere but never found it again for an update to see if it worked.

It would definitely be an interesting experiment! I'd love to try it out one day
