Scales fell off? Or burned?

Today my fish got stuck behind the heater. I couldn't find him, and I was worried he had jumped out, but I then I saw him behind it. At first he struggled a bit to get out but then he figured it out and swam out. He's swimming fine, but he has a HUGE white spot on his head now. I can't tell whether the scales are burned or if they just fell off or what?

Here's a picture (not clear, but you can kind of see it):

But anyways, my question is, what exactly happened? Did the scales just fall off or is he hurt? And is there anything I should do for him?

he prob scraped his head on the heater. I think he will be fine but if it looks red, infected etc then maybe AQ salt? for now just keep the water VERY clean!

your welcome! what I would do is take all the deco out for now and do a 50% WC every day (how big is your tank?) It may take a while for the scales to come back, but as long as the skin doesn't get more red or anything he should be fine. but I would just be worried that the scrape would get ammonia burn. OH also try stress coat, it protects the skin and will help with the slime coat!

I have a 2.5 gallon tank. I have a live java fern and moss ball in there. Do you think I should take those out too? They probably help with the ammonia.

if you end up going with AQ salt take out the plants, otherwise it will kill them. Clean water should be all that's needed with any luck.
