What, if anything can a male betta live with?

Depending on how big the tank is, it could live with endlers, neons, platies and many more but the tank size really depends on what fish are okay with a male betta

How big is the tank or bowl? That is what it comes down to, is the size.

No fish with a male betta is usually up until 10 gallons is what most on here believe. They need their space. If it is almost 10 you can probably get away with it. If it is smaller than 9 I would recomend shrimp or snails. You have to feed both but shrimp are sometimes killed and need cover. Snails are armored but have a large bioload, meaning more water changes.

You could have some, abut 6 to 7 neons with a male. Betta in your tank

Usually Thay won't but some do.
Here are a couple of stocking lists for your tank
1 male Betta, and 5 to 6 endlers
1 male Betta, and 6 to 7 neons
1 male Betta, and 3 to 4 platies
1 male Betta, and 4 to 5 female guppies
1 male betta, and 4 to 5 coryordras
1 male Betta, and 5 to 6 Pygmy coryordras
1 male Betta, and 5 to 6 cherry barbs
1 male Betta, and 5 to 6 glow light tetras
1 male Betta, 5 to 6 harleyquin rasbora
1 male Betta, and 5 to 6 galaxy rasbora

I would be very very careful with certain fish like rasbora, or barbs - I've noticed they are the top for being nippy. Also depends on your betta. I have a betta who could be with danios, male and female guppies, endlers, balloon mollies, cory cats, platys... all without a single problem. But then I have a downright bully betta who is forever a loner. Not even a snail.

if you get active fish like the neons, or danios or anything of that sort make sure the tank is 1. cycled (4-6 weeks) and 2. is dense with plants and hiding spots so the betta can retreat if he needs to :)

many bettas will attack and kill male gups. :T i had one viciously attack my favorite blue guppy. o-o

and, danios need larger tanks, since they get so big, and they've been known to be nippy as well.

in a 10 gallon, i stick with 5-6 pygmy cory catfish, or 5-6 neon tetras. :T
