Bloodworm oopsies

I was just reading my bottle of freeze dried bloodworms and it had a warning saying to not touch worms with your fingers, and to use tweezers to feed them... Yada yada yada wash hands immediately if you touch. I've Ben feeding them with my fingers for months... What exactly is the problem?

I have been feeding with my fingers as well for months now. I havent had any problems. I guess its just a precaution for people who are sensitive to things maybe?

People can suffer severe allergic reactions to bloodworms, which is why the warning is there. I always handle mine with my hands, although I use tweezers to feed. I never knew you could be allergic until someone mentioned it on another forum.

I'm allergic to bloodworms ... or used to be. It wasn't fun! Whenever I fed frozen bloodworms I would get a swollen mouth and sinus. If I was careless and rubbed my eyes they'd get swollen and itchy.

Now I take precautions and wear gloves when handling bloodworms, and wash my hands before and after. The allergy isn't so bad now, but even if you think you're not allergic to something, just be careful!
