I just noticed that my betta, Triton, looks like his fins might be somewhat frayed at the ends. I tried to get a picture, but he's choosing to hide behind the heater, so that didn't work. I'm wondering if I treat him for fin rot and he doesn't actually have it, will it hurt him? And if I do treat him, what would be the best medicine?

Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed?:
his fins might be a little more raggedy than usual at the bottom.
How has your betta fish's behavior changed?:
It's hard to say. I only just noticed this tonight and my mom has been taking care of him more often over the past week than I have (feeding him and talking to him), because I've been really swamped with finals. I caught him hiding down at the bottom of the tank a few times in the last half hour by the heater, but it's also 8:44 at night, so I'm not sure if he's actually lethargic or if it's the fact that the room is darker than usual and I'm on my bed busy studying, so he's bored. (It's not unusual for him to hide and wait for someone to walk in so he can pop out and act all protective of his tank, but he usually hides on the other side.)
When did you start noticing the symptoms?:
Maybe a half hour ago.

Does your fish have any history of being ill?:
I've never had to treat him for anything before.
How old is your fish (approximately)?:
Maybe about a year-and-a-half to two years old?
