My 20 gallon aquarium

For 1st putting my new betta in the tank should the temp be lower and slowly bring it up over a few days? what would make it the least stressful for my new betta(Who i dont have yet)? Seeing as he will be comming from a unheated 1 G tank at my LPS. As well can I floate the bag in the tank first, if so how long should I floate him?

I couldn't handle my betta killing or hurting them so no tank mates at this point :/ unless I could find a snail.
