How has your betta fish's behavior changed? Has stopped flairing when encouraged.
When did you start noticing the symptoms? about 1 month ago
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how? No
Does your fish have any history of being ill? No
How old is your fish (approximately)? about a year

He was very axctive and liked to flair at my finger when i first came over, and he had long fins with straight rays. not his fins arfe short with what looks like melted wax at the end of the rays, and he dosnt want to flair. Color is the same, not dull. No fuzz or red/inflaimed gills. I will go try and take a picture of him. I think it is fin rot, or mabey a problem with water chemistry.
This is my friends sisters fish, i will try and talk them into more frequent water changes, but its not my place to force them.
He still eats well and is responsive to movement.

It sounds like poor water quality, poor nutrition and too cool of water temps have caught up with him...the immune system is most likely compromised.....

I would tell your friend that he needs at least 3 water changes a week in the half gallon..2-50% and 1-100% unless that is a rooted plant-what species is it...do you know?......temp really needs to be increased to at the very least 74-75F he isn't doing too well with it otherwise he wouldn't be getting sick and having fin issue...short term they can tolerate a lot...but long term can catch up with them.....

I would have them start a standard aquarium salt 2tsp/gal and tannin treatment...you don't want to go too high on the temp too fast either at this point.....

Good luck....maybe they will give the fish to you so you can take care of it for awhile at least for treatment......just a thought.....

I am talking to her about having her mom get her a 5 gall and a heater.
i will ask about taking him home to see if i can treat him.
Also i have told her about water changes and she understands, nbut everything depends on her mom.
