Upgrade-tell me what ya think!

I am planning to upgrade my female, Shimmer, from her 1 gal. temporary vase to this:

I plan to use these as decor:
-terra cotta pot (turned on its side and buried halfway in gravel)
- plenty of live plants (Vallisneria, Pennywort, Marimo/Moss Balls, Hygrophila, Anubias)
- Malaysian Driftwood

Anything else you guys recommend me adding? Please don't be shy! Just give it to me straight! Also I am looking for the adequate filter and heater for a ten-gallon, one betta tank. Please share your infinite well of betta knowledge with me! I beg of you! I won't be upgrading Shimmer's tank untill after I get the sorority worked out (this will be my first time starting one).

A filter would be good, and expand her lifetime. You dont have to buy a huge one. Just a small one that will cycle the water and keep it clean. :)

What filter do you recommend I use? And heater?

I personally think any filter for a 10g tank would do good. I have AquaTec ones myself, cheap WalMart filters. It's up to you if you want a HOB (hang on back) or Internal. Any 50-100W heater will work, just make sure it's adjustable.

Make sure you have lighting that will support the plants you plan to use :)

Well, there are more options at Petsmart, but at walmart for a filter this would be a good/cheap one for a 10gal.

You may not even need a heater. If your rooms set at 78+ then you wont need one. :) I, personally, love my room hot so i don't need heaters. They'd probably fry if i did get one haha :)

Actually, when looking for a filter it's probably best to go with one that has media that you don't have to replace, you just wrinse. I hate having filters that need new cartridges lol I think AquaClear has these?

I have those tetras for my small tanks in the 3i option, I like them.

Hey pinkcupid, my room isn't at 78+. What do I do? I don't really want to invest to much into heaters, but I don't my betta getting numb toesies (technically finsies).

At Petsmart (assuming that you have one) There are small heating pads there that cost, i think, 14$.

Bettas can stay in lower temps. but they'll be less active and more prone to disease.

at walmart they sell a 15 dollar heater that i have in a 3 gallon and a ten gallon tank. they work great and are super cheap. the heater is made by tetra and i believe they come in a couple of sizes for a wide range of tank sizes.
