Filter intake baffle?

One of my corycats just got caught in the filter intake for the second time in two days. Is there anything I can use to make sure that at the very least he doesn't go inside the filter?

I usually do this for younger fish...I simply take a filter type sponge...Cut a small hole at the top and slide the intake through it. This way I do not lose any fishies and suction is not affected.
