Bloat hasn't gotten better after months.

So I've posted on here about my veiltail who has serious bloats. Months later it isn't any better but not any worse but 3/4 of his body have like doubled in size and his scales are pineconing. He seems fine...not as active as my other two fish in the same tank but he swims around and all that. I've cut his feeding down to 2 pellets a day. Should I try epsom salt again and can I use epsom salt without QT'ing him? I would think if it was dropsy or something fatal he would have died by now. What could be going on? Should I expect him to live much longer?

Pineconing usually suggests Dropsy or internal inflammation/build-up of fluids. A couple of fish have come back from this, but they usually don't last much longer.
I'd get Myracyn I and II. You'll need actual medicine to fight this off.

If it was something like that though wouldn't he be dead by now?

A betta can be bloated if it's having intestinal problems but pine coning down the body is dropsy.. He definitely needs epsoms and meds. I actually suggest Kanamyacin, if you can find it. Seachem's Kanaplex is the most readily available. I've never known the Maracyns to work on dropsy.. but someone may have had success?

Ahh! I need to know what to get because my boyfriend's going into town this weekend and I need to tell him what works best. He'll be going to a PetSmart.

Highly suggest Kanamyacin over Maracyn (Erythromyacin) for dropsy as it is stronger and more likely to work but others may feel different.. like I said never seen dropsy treated with Maracyn, personally. Don't know you can find this at petsmart though.

You can find Kanamyacin usually anywhere they have Seachem products, and I believe that Maracyn can be found al Walmart.
