Thinking about breeding hms or hmpks

So in a year or a year and a half I'm thinking of breeding either hms or hmpks, I've been doing a lot of research but does anyone have advice?

Which type do you like best? How long have you been keeping bettas?

Breeding supplies and process are basically the same for both types. But HM will need more maintenance compared to PK. They need more ideal water and regular exercise. . . . how much work are you prepared for?

In terms of quality breeding, HM will need more selective breeding. You can throw in any 4 ray PK and get a majority HMPK but 2 HM DO NOT produce 100% HM. My best was probably 60-70% and my worse was about 10%. . . . . depending on the genetic background of your breeders.

Since this is your first try, I'd suggest PK. But it all depends on your preference.

PS. You need to ask more specific questions for quicker replies.

(Sorry, I haven't posted in a while so I forgot about that little thing haha)
I really like both of them, but I think I might go for the HMPK's so that I won't have to deal with tail biting and all of that stuff. I've been keeping bettas for eight years.
I own a farm so I probably would want to do HMPK's since I'll be working with my other animals for the most part of the day. I think in a few years once I have more experience with it I may try breeding HM's.

For HMPK's, should the male be Pk and the female HM? Or should I just buy two HMPK's?
Do you know some reputable breeders of HMPK's?

This is good form for an HMPK, correct? I just want to check to make sure I'm looking for the right things. http://www.aquabid.com/cgi-bin/aucti...hmp&1399742403

If you want HMPKs, I suggest getting a pair of HMPK - easier, faster and cheaper in reaching your goal.

That guy has quite a few flaws, but is breed worthy. When working with dragons, watch the eyes. That guy's eye is almost covered with dragon feature which will blind him. If you find those kinds, cross them to non dragon or metallic to reduce the dragon effect.

Look for the best female (form wise) you can find. I believe the female passes on more fin genetics than the male. But sometimes form follows the sexes . . . I mean fry will be formed like dad while female fry will be more like mom . . . . it all depends on which genetic make up survived to adult.

Look out for dorsal form. Fixing dorsal is harder than fixing caudal.

Ok good, I knew about the eye thing. What should I look for in the form of male and female hmpk's? I want to breed either butterflies or dragons. What are some common flaws in that tail type I should watch out for? Also on aq they don't normally have very good pairs, so do you know some other places I could look for pairs? Thanks :)

Watch out for round tails, poor toplines, weak dorsals and spilt ventrals.
Round tails are the main thing that runs through hmpk and are hard to correct so watch out for that
