can you tell the age of a betta?

I got a new boy 2days ego from petsmart...my other betta died 2weeks ego :( ...so i went out and got a new boy...i was looking to find a smaller betta thinking maybe its a younger one...this boy is maybe a inch long ..here is a pic of him...if you can maybe tell me if he looks like a young betta and what type is he...

I dont know about age but I'm thinking he's a crown tail :) What a beautiful crown tail he is too!

what a pretty crowntail most bettas sold in pet stores are usually six moonths im told but they could be afew months older.

Haven't picked a name yet..i was thinking maybe just Red..lol im hoping in few days his blue will come thru little more.

He was def the smallest betta in the store, but so active and would flare at all the other bettas...so i said i need to have him!

Older betta's don't tend to carry their fins as younger betta's do, some also get a "rounded top".

He is a crowntail! I'm not sure about age, but as BettaHeart said they are usually 6 months old in the pet shops! :D

6 months could be right?? When i asked at one store he kept saying there "young" geez what a help.. Then at another place they told me 3 months or a lil more.. im not sure if thats correct seeing that all of you guys say 6! id really like to know how old mine is too.. i got him yesterday(:

As i have asked several employees they will often state the breeder will tell them the age is usually 6 months to a 1 year. But thats only based on what the breeder has told them, theres really no knowing unless you raise a spawn and watch the growth carefully.
