My crazy Charlie died yesterday while I was at work. It was somewhat expected - he hadn't been well for several weeks. Ever since I got him in October I thought there was something a little different about him. He was a gorgeous orange butterfly delta tail. Most bettas I've seen go up for air with one maybe two "sips". But Charlie would always jump several times for air. I recorded it on my phone one day and posted it on youtube:

He was one of the more peaceful bettas I've ever owned. When he was sharing the divided tank, I always made sure to put him in between the more fiesty guys.
I suspect ammonia is in my source water and I'm working on making sure that it doesn't become a problem for any more bettas. I think Charlie might have been more suceptible. I'm glad he's no longer suffering and hope he's having fun swimming under the Rainbow Bridge with Hurley (who I lost earlier this week) and Chandler (who I lost in October).
Here are a few shots I got from him in his short time with me.
