Male in a Sorority - SUCCESSFULLY!

OK, possibly not how it might sound, it's actually more of a community tank, but I have a smaller tank suspended inside it housing my little Howard.

It all came about a couple of months ago when temperatures started to drop in these parts. I desperately needed a second heater for my 45g community tank (Which is where my girls live), and I was heating Howard's 2.5g tank with a 100w heater when inspiration struck. Now Howard's little tank is inside the community tank, with the whole being heated by Howard's 100w and the original 200w.

The community sude of the Tank currently houses:-
-1 Golden Gourami
-1 Ruby Shark
-1 Common Pleco (Juvenile)
-1 Leopard Cory
-5 Panda Cories
-10 Adult Platies
-3 Juvenile Platies in a Breeding Trap
-5 Betta Females

As I said, the whole thing's been up for a month or so now, and While Howard occasionally flares if the females hang about near his tank too long, there've been no real problems - and the juvenile Platies are all home bred - One's nearly big enough to release shortly, and the other two will be about a month behind her.

The guy in the LFS said that the two biggest fish (The Gourami and the Shark) are probably too wary of each other to be bothering the rest of the fish, so I may have to watch if I lose either of them, but so far I've seen no aggression or sign of stress in any of the inhabitants.

I plan on expanding this in the next few months, basing the whole thing in a bigger tank, and adding more males in their own little spaces (Although I'll be adding one at a time and watching for any probs as I go)

Forgot to add - Howard's tank still has it's own lid, so there's no chance of him jumping out (or anyone else jumping in)

I admit, I was expecting another person to go on about how they could keep a "harem" of bettas just fine, etc. But this is an awesome idea and looks really cool! Excellent thinking!
