I think if the parent does things right, home schooling is a fabulous option. Many of my homeschooled friends are because they do something that takes them away from actual school. Since I am into horses, they are normally competing in rodeos/shows and are gone very frequently around the state or across the country. They'd be pulled from public school anyway for too many absenses.
I do many homeschooled children whose parents go about it all wrong, though.. Knew a few where they weren't even educated (parents didn't do their job as "teacher") and wanted the kids to stay home most of the time so they never gained social experience, either. One girl in particular is still in high school and struggling severely with her academics due to her parents believing in teaching religion vs school. It's sad really.
All fault lies on the parents with that one.
