How long can he wait until I get a heater?

So I PROMISE I'm getting my betta a heater..though people are advising me not to because he is only in a 2.5 gal tank I still feel I should get one. My house has 0 insulation and we live in central IL where our coldest night thus far has be 9 degrees outside.

Right now I have my desk that my tank is sitting on next to a vent where our heat comes out. I'm hoping this will help him be a bit more comfortable since the temperature was at 86 4:00 this afternoon and now it's at 70 so I'm worried it will make another drastic drop overnight.

My question is will my betta be okay until friday? That's my payday.

I think I might have already answered my own question that yes he may very well be able to wait. I just checked the temp which is going back up to 72 since I moved it over by the vent. Don't worry the heater is not blowing directly on the tank so it shouldn't sky rocket and boil him. I also have one of those vents that come from the wall and not the floor and the desk is over that one so it's actually blowing underneath the desk and out towards the room.

I've had to put a betta close to an air vent, not right next to it and not right on it though. Then I got him a heater the next day. :)

and who are these "people" saying NOT to get a heater for a 2.5? >:( safely, a 2.5 can be heated with a mini heater, aka a 7-15 watt heater.

better yet put him in the closet. YES it sounds weird. If you have a shelf in your closet, heat RISES and often is trapped in closets. my closet is sooo warm, compared to my room with is soo warm compared to the rest of the house which is soooo cold Basically the warmest spot in the house, out him. add a blanket or twoel around his tank :)

Oh just some customers at work when they were talking to me about my fish. I told them I got a betta and that I'm looking for a decent heater, asked what they had etc and they advised me not to get him a heater. I was puzzled by the response because these people supposedly have like 5 or 6 aquariums with all kinds of different fish yet they don't know a betta needs tropical temperatures..

Temperature preferably should be between 78-80, safely is 76-82.

And if it drops to 68 or lower, then he is in the definite danger zone
I am not sure.

I do recommend...

Never heard of that one. I use Hagen Elites in my 2.5 tanks. You want something adjustable so you can keep a good temperature.

I agree the elite is a very good heater and preset adjustable is best, put him in something else or put the heater in about 2.5 gallons for at least a day to make sure there are no problems.
