kritter keeper help

So I want to get either a 3.3 or 5 gallon critter keeper for just one male betta but have questions as to filters and heater.
Should I even use a filter if so what kind? If no filter what would be a good water change schedule?
What type of heater would be good to use?

I have a 3 gallon, do one 50% and 100% change each week, no filter. I use an elite 25w heater, and Rex is doing great in that tank. :)

For the KK couldn't you cut a hole for a filter, just a cheap hang on the back one.
