My betta home

I have my male betta in a 40 gallon breeder with a handful of 24k golden white cloud mountain minnows. It is planted with lots of crypts, java fern, moss and some bunch plants (stargrass currently but it is not doing so well). I run a Fluval 206 canister filter. I made a DIY prefilter for the intake by cutting a slit in the center of an AquaClear sponge and fitting it over the intake. I also made a baffle out of a pair of pantyhose to reduce the current. I tried an AquaClear on the outtake too and there was zero surface movement. The pantyhose makes it perfect. It is viewable from all sides so there is no background. It makes it hard to get a good picture.
