Silly flares

So, I'm trying a couple different things in an effort to get Bruiser's tail biting under control. One of the things I've tried is placing items outside his tank for him to explore. Last night after applying vicks vapor to our toddler I set the jar next to Bruiser's tank... and he went nuts! Silly fish started to flare like crazy, telling that jar who's boss. :)

So, what silly things does your betta flare at?

Odin flares at pens/pencils!

I discovered this by mistake. I was sitting by his tank writing out a list and at the corner of my eye I noticed him all big, when I looked sure enough he was flaring at my pencil. I put it on his tank and he went nuts at it...bahahahaha!

Odin also flares at my camera (only if I lay it down though on the table next to his tank), my fingers and my face if I put it close to the glass.

My other two only seem to flare at their reflections or other bettas.

Kaze flares at my finger when I press it up against the glass as well as moving away after a quick flare looking totally and utterly disgusted (I can almost hear him crying "How could you do such a thing you filthy human?!").

Oh, he also flared randomly at one of the new stripey "rocks" in his aquarium when he finally realized that it was moving (zebra snail).

Jekyll, my torn up CT male. I had a towel wrapped around his tank to give him some darkness from being stressed and I moved it down to check on him. He flared at me.
