how to cool a tank

I'm from Australia and at the moment we are in the middle of summer and i was wondering if there was a way to cool down a aquarium?

I have a 100 litre tank that has my male betta and few other fish in it, but the water temperature is 35 degrees Celsius

I'm in Brisbane, so I know how you feel! But that water is 95F, so I'd act quickly. :s

When it's hot, I take the top off my tank, lower the water a bit so that there's not risk of my boy jumping out, and then direct a pedestal fan straight into the tank. I also turn the filter up so get the surface moving a bit.

In drastic cases like yours, I fill a ziplock bag with ice cubes, and float it in my tank. (Next to the filter, so the coolness spreads evenly.) Replace the ice once it's melted if the temperature is still too high. Good luck!

Wow. How hot is it outside? We had 100+ temps this past summer here in TX, but I use air conditioning.
Is your tank in front of a window?

Also move the tank to a cool, low, dark place. Heat rises so the lower and darker the better. I would try to avoid the ice cube method as this can cause uneven temperature.

Doing a water change with cooler water can also help. :)

thanks for the help, the tank is inside away from the windows, and its 35 degrees inside because our air con couldn't handle it and died.

For the last week we have had really hot temperatures, 35+ and i live in the southwest of Australia.

The tank is now at 26 degrees :)

So glad to be in the south east today. :P At least our outdoor temperature isn't going above 30-ish celcius today.

I spoke too soon - it hit 37.5 an hour ago. The sun is setting now, so hopefully it will be going down. Massive annoyance, though - I had to unplug my fan in my room to add another filter for my tank, and my window faces west...this is not going to be a fun night.
