Saphira Update!

Well, Saphira is doing great so far! She is the cutest little thing and has one of the most outgoing personalities I have ever had in a betta. She's constantly begging for food and enjoys chasing bubbles, eating/spitting out the sand in her tank, then displaying at it, pushes the thermometer around, tries to jump at the flashlight when I set it on the corner of the tank, tries to size up the lightbulb in the hood of her tank...*sigh* I giggle at her almost nonstop haha. She's the nosiest thing, and has to investigate EVERYTHING. She also jumps and bites at the pipette I use to drop her bloodworms and soaked pellets in the tank with before the food even makes it into the water.

Here is a link to a video of her.

What pellets are you feeding her and what do you soak them in? I might have to try something different for mine.

For her, I'm using New Life Spectrum betta formula pellets. I soak them in tank water for a few minutes prior to feeding so they expand. :)

When I first feed them they put the little ball in their mouth and then they spit it out. I leave the food in there though and it seems to disappear? Food doesn't just dissolve on it's own right? So maybe they don't want an audience when they eat?

Daisykd: Try crushing them. Sometimes they prefer privacy or just don't like to eat immediately, but it seems the pellets are too big maybe. Put them between two spoons like you would to crush a pill, then sprinkle in the pieces (you don't want to grind it to dust, just make each one a couple pieces)...if that doesn't work, try looking for smaller pellets. There are some massive pellets out there that I cant believe they sell for bettas.

The fifth pic is really cute. Mind if I take a pic of the food for you? I really don't think it's that big... I have "Tetra Betta Floating Mini Pellets" (though they're more like little balls.) I bought it at Walmart.

Go ahead. The New Life Spectrum stuff is great..it's really tiny, and doesn't expand much.
