Okay, he let me get a few shots and you can see the diff in his color pretty well. I am NOT liking the gold dusting I am now seeing around his face in the pics. I need to find my good flashlight. I couldn't get a better one of his chin. His tank sucks.

The gold dusting might just be his coloring. If you notice he has gold on the tips of his fins, so it might just be natural. But I would definitely go in w/ a flashlight

I think it's just his chin area. I don't see anything really bad wrong with his fins but the fin rot and splitting.

Yeah, in that last pic I can see the gold you are talking about. He might just have some GAWGEOUS coloring. But I'm surprised that the only things he has to take away from that dirty tank are fin rot and splits. He's a trooper. :)

Here are some names for him (you don't have to use them- you probably already named him anyway, but here):
-Gold Digger
-Trooper

(I know, not very original names. LOL :) )

Gold digger is cute I am hoping to adopt him out to someone who will take good care of him. I don't really need any more scalys and who I will take him will let me come and check on him. It would be like a foster care thing. I don't think I can give him enough attention. Here's an update. He sure is a trooper. No other illnesses after being soaked in ammonia and the fin rot isn't as bad as I originally thought. He came from some of those "they live in mud puddles" It's irritating. He is staying with me for at least a week or too before I decide if he is ready to be placed in another home again. I wish I could give him the attention he needs but I am a college student and already have ten bettas who take up my time. Plus three dogs, a community tank and a man so I think he would be happier with someone who could spoil him with all sorts of crap. Oh, his bloodworm treat was a big hit. At first he didn't know how to eat them, now he eats them like a pirahna.
