Smile What kind of Betta is my Betta?

Hey everyone! This is my 1 1/2 year old male betta, Sparky. Can you please tell me what kind of betta you think he is? I have no clue. He was quite affordable, and has been a great buddy, but I would really like to know what kind of betta he is. Thanks!!!

She is a she, the dorsal and anal fins are definitely female.

Females flare too. :)

Just want to ask, Thomas - that jar looks kind of small. Are you heating it?

Females will flare, as they are just as aggressive as males. They just don't have as large of beards.
Did s/he have long flowing fins? Or were they always a little short? The dorsal fin is really small for a male, and too close to the body for any fin biting to have made it that short. The anal fin still screams female though.

Those are a little small- if anything, fill it close to the top with water to give them a little more room to swim, and to avoid jumping, use seran wrap covered over the top with holes punched in to give them oxygen. Use tape to keep it wrapped tightly and avoid touching the water. It will also help keep their labyrinth organ healthy with any humidity that builds up under it.
A heater is ideal, as they are tropical fish (not simple fish that live in puddles as the myths go) who live in miles and miles of water expanses. Would be ideal to consider getting them into at least a gallon or larger and finding a good heater for them to keep them healthy and to give them a better chance at longevity.

yes, he/she lives in a 1gallon tank. I am planning to breed my halfmoons, and with the money I earn I am going to reinvest in larger tanks and heaters. No, she/he does not have a heater. And her/his tank is monitered for heat and jumping. Oh, and it does look really low in these pictures, but the angle was weird and she/he usally has a lot more water.

His/her fins have always been this short, and he has never tail bitten or had any sort of fin disease to make them shorter. Her beard is pretty big, so... thanks so much!
