Exclamation Please Help!!

I have NO idea what is wrong with my poor Betta Sammy. He has been sick for around 2 weeks but is still holding on, and I just feel like he has symptoms for almost every single disease.

He lives in a 1 gallon tank with a filter. He went from very active, to floating around at the top of the tank. I initially thought he had dropsy because he started becoming bloated behind his gills, so I expected it to get worse and then he would die. But he hasn't gotten anymore bloated and his scales aren't really even "pine-coning" he just looks a little swollen there.

He also recently started getting this silver/metallic kind of crust around his gills. I have no idea what that is. I don't have any stats on my water, but I do try to keep it above 75 degrees.

Any time I try to give him food, he'll try to eat it, but then spit it back out. He hasn't really eaten in almost two weeks. I honestly have no idea how he is alive, but I'm not giving up until he's gone, or I at least have an answer.

So can someone, ANYONE, please please help me try to figure out what is wrong with my poor baby and maybe save him?

I haven't tested my water, and I have been changing the water more frequently now since he's gotten sick. About 2 times a week.

Hi Kwhippo - Sorry to hear about your betta. For starters, you need to be doing daily water changes if he's only in a 1 gallon bowl. A filter isn't necessary as it doesn't help in such a small environment. Even 2x week isn't enough. I would venture to say he has a pretty bad bacterial infection and unfortuantly once they lose their appetite, it's never a good sign. However, answer the questions below - just cut and paste them into your response and we'll see how we can best help your little guy.

Housing
What size is your tank?
What temperature is your tank?
Does your tank have a filter?
Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration?
Is your tank heated?
What tank mates does your betta fish live with?

Food
What type of food do you feed your betta fish?
How often do you feed your betta fish?

Maintenance
How often do you perform a water change?
What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change?
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change?

Water Parameters:
Have you tested your water? If so, what are the following parameters?

Ammonia:
Nitrite:
Nitrate:
pH:
Hardness:
Alkalinity:

Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed?
How has your betta fish's behavior changed?
When did you start noticing the symptoms?
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how?
Does your fish have any history of being ill?
How old is your fish (approximately)?
