I really don't think so, I myself would do 5 bettas wit 2 gallons each because I would be saving more bettas this way. In my opinion that is better.I think they will just be happy to have a warm clean home...

IMO/E 1-2gal unfiltered are fine to keep this species long term-provided that water quality and proper temp is maintained....

In a 10gal divided-you have to remember that its not going to be a full 10gals in volume....you have to account for the offset of everything in it-especially the substrate and often you don't fill it to the tip top....generally a 10gal with an inch or so of substrate and a few decoration-filled roughly an inch from the top is going to be closer to 8-9gal more or less....

I used this link when I divided my tank....
http://www.tropicalfishkeeping.com/d...ividers-21866/
I divided mine in 2... My filter didn't do a good job on the side without it so I would switch it over everyday... I think the mesh holes were just too small, but I did use the size they recommended. I really can't point you in a direction of a good filter and lighting cuz I got a kit...the marineland 10 gal kit..... It came with everything, heater, filter, hood, light... For like 73$

Smallest would probably be 2.5 gallon to house one betta.

^ My previous setup.

With:
Tom's mini internal filter
25w Elite mini heater
Perfecto hood for 2.5g tank
15w Incandescent bulb
