12 gallon community

so i have my male betta in a 12 gallon bowfront tank and gonna try a community tank, i have only fake plants right now but soon at the end of the month im going to put some real plants in there and i have 2 friends that work at petsmart so i can get the best advise on what plants i want for my stock,
fish i was thinking of having are
pygmy corydoras most likely 6 of them
or maybe a school of platys or a school of neon tetras
any suggestions?
(i have gravel on the bottom and a filter with a baffle on it and a good heater)

If you want pygmy cories, swap out that gravel and replace it with sand. That's a good idea with any cories, but with pygmies it is pretty much essential because they have the tiniest little barbels you ever did see, and they can easily be damaged on gravel. They are super cute.

I'm not a fan of platys in less than a 15 gallon because they are quite large, active fish. I would go for the tetras, though I would choose ember tetras over neons (calmer, less nippy, very peaceful and pretty - mine get on really well with my girls). Another option would be male Endlers livebearers, which are also very small and non-nippy (females can be a bit grumpy sometimes).

My stocking suggestion would be your betta, 6-8 pygmy cories and 3-4 male Endlers. :)

I second those suggestions. Corys of any kind are great community fish...they are so playful and it sometimes seems as if they are doing choreographed dancing! Could watch them for hours. I would go with the ember neons...a great middle tank school. And they should all get on wonderfully with your male betta. They will all appreciate lots of green live plants to swim around and use as hiding places.

I would suggest 7+ tetras or maybe a few guppies.
