8 ray + 8 ray = rose tail (possible deformity)
RsT + multiple rays (4 - 8 rays) = deformities (mainly fin related issues)
RsT + less rays (2-4 rays) reduces possible genetic flaw (but not eliminate)
2 rays are most often more of a Round Tail, so I suggest 4 rays with wide webbing (a 4 rayed HM) - cull/never re-breed deformed fry.
Sorry I don't really know any US breeders. But anyone who breeds HM will have SD. Contact them and ask.
Excessive ray branching needs non fatty food, so no wormy food. And they need to flare on a regular basis. Otherwise their fins will become .... clamped(?). Maintaining their fin form is more work than your regular 4-8 ray
That could be the problem. He gets lots of bloodworms so I need to cut back. Thanks so much for the info, Indjo! Oh, sorry guns. The moderator just hi-jacked your thread. >.< Sorry!
haha thats perfectly fine, hijack away...its better then the thread going dead lol.
And thank you Indjo for a little genetics lesson, eventually id like to be able to figure out how all of that works.
Sakura-i have 3 LPS around here, so i will see what i can find their before i get the one you linked for me.
So...Thor is frustraiting me...i wish i could get a shot of him flaird for you guys. He had a rip up the direct center of his tail (tip to middle), and the edges are like confetti. He has nothing to catch his tail on, water is always clean (and its not rot...trust me he gets tired of me checking)...so he has to be biting...
he used to flair ALL the time for me...the tip of my finger. But now i cant even get him to flair at another male.
Females? yes. Loki? No.
