Hello, and welcome to the forum. What kind of fish are your family thinking of ? Just an FYI one of my cats is an orange tabby and he loves laying next to the Betta tank and just watches him swim around neither one of them bothers the other.
Ooh - a Maine Coon! I have always wanted one! I hear wonderful things about them from people who own them. Plus - how gorgeous are they?

My Maine Coon is the sweetest lady cat ever. She's kind of snooty and stuck up but loves laying in my lap and snuggling with me. lol the Bengal boys are nuts.
