What variety are these?

Hi everyone. New to the forum, but not to Bettas. I've had them since I was young on and off. Recently my two daughters wanted to get a betta, and I got a couple as well. I spotted these two and liked the wild like look of them. So I purchaced them. Think they may be male imbellis or coccina, but that is coming from someone that is just guessing. What's your opinion? Thank you for any help and lessons on telling the difference: male, female, variety, etc. Maybe they are just splendens, but I don't think so.

Where did you get them? The female looks like a veil to me, she just has wild colors. The male looks like he could be a plakat. Can you get a photo of the male flaring?

imbellis look more..rounded, from what i've seen i pictures. I haven't kept wilds though so i really do't know all of the many(MANY) types.

Unless they were sold as 'wild' or betta-(coccina/imbellus/whetever) they're likely just splendens with wild-type coloring. Wilds generally sell for more so I think that they would take care to label them special in some way.

They kinda look like wilds to me, the bottom one has such a different body shape.

those are king bettas. they're the result of fighters bred with wild betta imbellis.

lesson of of learning different from betta's genders:
she looks like a female bi-color wild types, the first thing to tell is that males will mostly have longer fins than females.

^^^ above is something like yours, she is a Plakat/veiltail bi-color wild type.

sometimes females tend to have longer fins than males since males could be plakats:

how can you tell this is female? if you look on her stomach area there is a white spot or considered "egg spot" or "egg sack"
sometimes young males will have egg spots but will go away during time. another way to tell female from male is the "beard" the black area in the gills, if it is very noticeable it will be male, females don't have there beard sticking out as much as a male does.
also males will build nest, or we call it "bubble nest"
