It should be fine. If you get it set up and think it isn't powerful enough then you can get another. Generally any air pump will work.

Yay! Another sponge filter convert! lol Funnies aside, another bonus of sponge filters is that if you have a lot of power outages in your area, you can get a battery-powered air pump so your tank will still have filtration while the power is out.

XD Yay for the sponge! I looked at prices and stuff and watched multiple videos of that stuff and it was awesome! I think it's pretty cool that you can make your own filter and its better than the ones they sell. (knock on wood) We don't normally get a lot of power outages around here, but of course then again it does help that my mom works at the for the power company :D Oh and speaking of the filter...I noticed that AquaClear sold smaller packs of the foam and the biomax do you think the smaller stuff rated for the 5 gallon tanks should be fine? (Probably a stupid question but I just want to be sure)

It's made of the same stuff as the larger ones, so it should be perfectly fine. I just buy the larger stuff because I have a larger aquaclear filter in my 55 gal.

My 55 gal is my goldfish tank, so I need to run the heaviest filtration on it that I can. I think I have some decent pictures of them under "My aquariums." I was trying to wait for the plants to grow in before I get more.

I've just got two right now, but I can have up to 4. I'm having trouble keeping the water quality good with just 2, so I'm going to wait a while before I add any more. I've got a red ryukin and a calico veiltail. Both are around 5 or 6 inches in body length, but the veiltail has another 6 inches in fins behind her.

Whoa! Those are some big fish! I saw you have koi's too. I've been curious about those too. Can you only keep them in ponds are are there a smaller variety that you could keep in a bigger tank?
