Something tore my boys fins.

I admit, I'm stumped, I never thought a live plant would tear their fins, but yesterday morning I turned on the light over the divided 10... and cried. Champagne had a single strip torn off his tail, hanging from the bottom of the tail. He has more live plants that I want to count, a heater, and one "stone" bridge. The edges of the bridge are not rough, at least they don't feel it.

He loves to rest on this one anubias leaf. It if large, bigger than 3 bettas. Could he have snagged his tail on that? I have images of the tank in my albums. A leaf, the one shrimp I think is still alive with him, or the bridge (not what I'm leaning towards) are the possible culprits. He has very "thin" and fragile looking fins.

Anyone have any ideas?

I wouldn't blame the plant. I think that's the least likely culprit. I'd do the pantyhose test on the bridge, and have a stern talk to your shrimp. Is it a ghost shrimp?

amano, and I haven't seen it in 3 days. He's also had the bridge for 3 months, and my plakat has a matching one. I should mention his fins are as delicate looking as silk, and his anal fin has some serious curling and kinking.

He harassed the RCS till she croaked.

can you provide a photo of your tank with the decorations?

the shrimp wont do anything to the betta. i have a bunch and they do their own thing, sometimes even groom the betta when he's not looking.

i used to have a lot of rocks in my tank and my fish would rip up his fins playing in them. i dont think it bothered him much. make sure you have some aquarium salt and a good warm temp and feed him a lot of protein and he'll regen fast.

mine just regenerated a big hole in his anal fin [from flexing] and i think it's been just over a week.

I've become an expert on regrowing fast. Omega one pellets, frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp usually once a week. I'd have to check the thermometer (my snail likes to push it around) but I think 77 or 78.

Pictures of both sides. Champagne is the peach/lavender one. However since that picture was taken java moss was added, a fair bit of it (if stuffed down it would fill a cup, but I tried to spread it out a bit).

He spends half his time resting on a trimmed anubis leaf, the other half tending to his massive nests. I see him get his fins/tail snagged on t often, but because it was a live plant I didn't worry.

Champagne has the best fins of all my boys *ducks as two other boys give evil looks*. I have a plakat who shares the other 5 gal. And my old grumpy Scuzi, in his 2.5 with his chronic tail biting.

Edit: might not see much of the bridge, it's hidden by enough live plants to create a jungle. It's jut a standard piece from 'smart. The divider is plastic canvas "mesh" in the report cover guards, siliconed (aquarium kind) in place.
