(1) I have an about 5 gallon storage tub. Will this be okay for a breeding tank?
(2) as for growout, can I have a 10-20 gallon tub? Will a heater melt the plastic?
(3)is it possible to recycle applesauce jars and jelly jars, boil them and be able to use them for fry,or do I have to bleach them or use clean tupperware?

The parents will be: A pink cambodian veiltail (M) : A steel/royal(?) blue iridecsent veiltail with red pectoral fins (F)(I will upload pictures) I am pretty sure the pair is compatible because I put them together a while to see if they were (don't worry, they're in separate tanks ATM lol)

I buy clean containers, But I've used old pretzel jars(like 2-2.5gallns each)old water jugs(1-2.5gallons) and those glass jars you can buy by the case for like ten bucks.
5 is ok for breeding. 20 would be better for a grow out. a heater won't melt the plastic(you temp shouldn't go over 83 at anypoint anyway).

Make sure you condition the parents well. ^^ You'll get some multi color VT's when you spawn. These can be kinda hard to rehome sokeep in mind if you get 100+ babies you'll need some where for them to go.

I hope to cull them to 25-40 fry. Do I need to heat the containers? I will be breeding in spring. Can I use new food storage containers? For a growout, can I use a 10 gallon growout tub? The tub I saw was about 2 feet long, 1 foot deep, and 4 in tall, or should I use a 20 gallon tub?

Sounds good. If you wait a couple weeks to cull(like 3 weeks-a month) you can cull the bent spines as you see them the cull the smaller ones later if you still have too many.

Yes you need to keep their jars heated, bettas all need heated tanks.

A 20 is better for grow out if you have more then 20 fry.

I picked up a 25g plastic tub for like $12 a few weeks ago, I was always under the impression 20g minimum.
