black edge to fin?

What does it mean when the betta's tail fin starts to get a black edge to it? I just noticed that mine has a tiny area on his that looks like it's black.

It could be natural markings. I have a black-tipped HM. Or it could be finrot. You should take a picture over to the disease subforum.

Potentially, fin rot. Test your water for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. That is generally the cause of fin rot. I would suggest a 25-50% water change regardless and boosting the temperature to 82 for a week. It may help and it certainly won't hurt. :)
