Thanks so much, that's about what I figured. It is so hard to watch, as this guy has been such a joy, and has really taught us how wonderful fish can be....He definitely hooked me. Thankfully, he doesn't seem to be suffering at all, still enjoys his food, and tries hard to be responsive to us when we chat with him. Silly, as he is 'just a fish' but I wish he knew how special he is to us. I guess we'll just keep up with what we're doing, and try to keep him comfy. Hopefully we'll know when the time is right if we have to end his suffering, I am just hoping that he passes without too much suffering. Thanks again for all of your help.

I also think that some bettas are hardy ,others are not ,and more fragile. I have 10 bettas. Some of them 4 years old some 2.5 years old but i had fish died at 2 years old. And i do the same care for all of them. :)
