breed time question

Hi everyone, I tried a breeding session a few weeks ago with Counter and a red female. They spawned and everything, but the eggs never hatched. I cleaned the tank and now Counter has himself built another nest. The female has an egg spot showing again. When is too soon to try it again?

I usually give my breeders at LEAST a week of re-conditioning before spawning them again. Sometimes a full two weeks, depending on the situation. How are you conditioning them? What are you feeding them? What are their water parameters?

They are both on a diet of blood worms and brine shrimp, each in their own 2.5 tank. The female has vertical stripes and is parading around in front of him. Its been two weeks.

Hmmm. It could be an issue with infertility, or if it was the first time for both of them, their embrace may not have been secure enough for the fertilization to occur. I'd say try it again in a few days, don't let them see each other until then. If they spawn successfully and the eggs still don't hatch after several days, I'm afraid one of them may be sterile. =/

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but I agree, try again before giving up on those two.

never have a problem with male shooting blanks or problem with female
i usually wait two week for the male and a month on the female before breeding them again
yeah sometime the egg take a little long to hatch
my longest wait was about 3 1/2 days
just don't mess around to much when they breed
