Can a betta be kept with gouramis and catties?

I am getting a Betta and instead of putting him in a little tank I want to give him some room. can he be kept with some colourful dwarf gouramis, plecos and corys? I am also interested in breeding so should I put him in a different tank anyway?

The pleco and corydoras should be fine tankmates, but it is not advisable to house gourami and bettas together as they both inhabit the same area of the tank, and are both usually territorial and semi-aggressive.

Gouramis can attack corydoras. Actually, gouramis will attack a lot of things. I would not advise putting corydoras with gouramis.

If you have room, I'd get a 10-15 gallon for the betta and your cories :)

my gouramis leave the corys completely alone, my tank is harmonious at the moment. I think it is because there are alot of hiding places.
