Necessities for a Betta Splendens! :D

Must Haves

-1+ Gallon Tank
[2.5+ is much better, as it gives a lot more swimming space]

-Heater
[Bettas need to be in temperatures of 78-82F or 25-28C]

-High Quality Food
[Must be made for bettas; New Life Spectrum, Omega One, and Attisons
Betta Pro are all good brands]

-Water Conditioner

-Something to Hide in
[Mugs and terracotta pots make great hidey holes]

-Baffled Filter in a 5+ Gallon Tank

-Bacteria Supplement in a 5+ Gallon Tank

Nice to Haves

-Silk Plants

-Live Plants

-Subsrate
[Would be on the must haves, except I know some people have bare-
bottom tanks]

-Live and Frozen Foods

If there is anything else I need to add, let me know! :D

Once again, I wouldn't do the bacterial supplement, even with a fish-in cycle. It's usually not worth the money. :) Fishless is safer, anyway.

I thought you had to put it in after every water change?

You have to put water conditioner in after (well, with) every water change, but bacterial supplements only tell you to do that so you'll buy their product. In a cycled tank, you should have enough stability that your tank can cope with a water change just fine, and in an uncycled one you don't need supplement anyway.

Very much so..

Also, last I heard they have/will be discontinuing the Attison's PRO food. I also wouldn't suggest their line of betta food, as their crude protein % is merely 36%...

A lot of breeders use Attison's Pro. But personally, I go with Omega One Betta Buffet. I'm not breeding any of the ones I have now (when I do get my breeding set up I will be using different fish), so I just go with the highest quality (imo only) for the average owner/betta.
