Bamboo

Hey So I have been wanting to add bamboo to my fish tank, but I have seen different people say different things. Can Bamboo be put in tanks?

what kind of light works best?

I wouldn't. Bamboo needs access to air. Even if the bamboo is long enough to get air from the surface, I still wouldn't do it. We have several bamboo plants, that grow like crazy, but they get this white mould on them every now and then, just a general plant fungus, sometimes they get mites too. Either way I wouldn't want that mould ending up in a fish tank..

I like this thread, haha! I'm interested in how Bamboo goes in tanks as well....what kind of substrate do they need and such. Will be stalking this

Only Lucky Bamboo can be had in fishtanks, and the leaves MUST be above the surface or they will rot. It is possible to do in an open-topped tank (I have grown semi-aquatic plants such as violet like this) but it can by annoying and there is the chance of your betta jumping. Personally, I'd just stick to true aquatics.

Isn't luck bamboo just bamboo twisted?

Any ways, the leaves must be kept above water, which means no hood, which that means a special lighting system. I would just save your money and buy the true aquatics like Bomb said.

All bamboo sold is stores is actually a type of lily, not true bamboo. These plants tend to not live over a year or two anyways.
