My new additions (and my first post!)

I went to Petco today to get my light hood fixed on my tank. The tank is 6.6 gallons and is a Petco brand "bookshelf" tank, so it's longer rather than tall, which gives a long area to swim.

I walked around while they looked at the light and came across a King Halfmoon. I know that a King is not a Giant and is just a larger betta, but he really is a huge fish! He dwarfed the other bettas and is very active.

Wasn't planning on purchasing him since my current tank was set up for a new addition I hope to win on Aquabid (http://www.aquabid.com/cgi-bin/aucti...shm&1331493335), however, I couldn't put him down.

He's a gorgeous iridescent white with dark blue/green mottling and a random blood red spot on his dorsal (which I hope is just coloration). After being acclimated, he took the the tank quite well.

His tank, like I said, is 6.6 gallons, though probably closer to 6 since it has the rocks and decorations. Before he joined in, there were 5 ghost shrimp keeping things tidy. The tank is being heated and stays at a nice 78 degrees Fahrenheit. I have an aerator, 4 plants, a hammock, and a kick butt shark jaw (fake) in there as well. The filter is well baffled, thanks to the sticky I read!

Interestingly, Petco now sells baby bettas. I have an old 1 gallon that I decided to set back up. There is now a little baby, all to his or herself. It is also heated. I am very interested in seeing what it turns out to be!

Here is a video of him. I have named him King Ghidorah, of Godzilla fame.

Please let me know what else I need to do to keep him happy and healthy!!

He is lovely! I would add a nice little cave or something so he has a nice little hiding spot. Also pay close attention to the hammock cause the wiring gets rusty and leaks into the water

looks like a very healthy baby
the associates at my petco don't know how to feed the babies so they basically starve :'(
I'm serious, I see betta pellets at the bottom of the cups all the time.

I just gave them both dinner and the fry was given bloodworms and 1 pellet to see if it would pick at it.

According to Betty Splendens, (bettysplendens.com/articles/page.imp?articleid=1405&v=giant)
'Giants' (and by extension) 'Kings' are not just big Betta, but are bred to be bigger.

If I understand that article correctly, Petco's 'Kings' are probably half-giants. I think the real giants may go to collectors and breeders. They probably wouldn't fit in those cups.

Giants on aquabid I've seen are up to 3 inches. There may be bigger..
I love the petco bookshelf tank, it's the most perfect betta tank. But we have no petco here :'(

Whoops. Sorry. That BettySplendens article isnot the one where I got my information on giants ans half-giants. Still an informative read.

I'll look for the one I referenced.
