Oak Leaves still OK?

A few years back when I had my last betta (now passed) there was talk of using Oak leaves in the tank for the tannins in them. They are obviously not almond leaves, but they still release tannins.

Is this still something people use? I know things can change quickly, and I want to make sure these are still safe. I still have a nice bag full of dry oak leaves ready to go!

I believe they are 99% compatible with IAL, so it shouldn't be a problem. I think you are meant to bake them first, though. Not sure.

Never heard of the need to bake the leaves but I might be mistaken.
You do have to make sure that they are dry leaves that have naturaly fallen off the branches. Unfortunatelly, I have to stick with IAL because it's very hard to find a dry leaf in Seattle.
