TerraCotta Pots?

I just picked up two small terracotta pots for Sookie and Gandalf. 1 for each tank. My question would be, what is the proper way to go about sanitizing these? Also, the holes in the bottom are just a wee bit large for my comfort, but not large enough for them to swim through. I have some aquarium safe mesh and some aquarium sealant. Would it be alright to seal the hole with the mesh? The bottle on the aquarium sealant says to let it dry for 48 hours. Does anyone have experience with this? Is 48 hours correct?

A picture of that pot. Is that hole too small to worry about?

So I found if I rolled up the netting we were going to glue over the hole, and stuffed it into the hole, it fit just right. Snug enough that it can't be pulled out, but soft enough so it won't hurt them to brush against it.

So far Gandalf seems to like sitting ON his rather than in. We'll see if that changes later, lol!
