Pandora's dying and I wish I could help her:(

3 days ago one of my girls became listless. I've had her for about 2 weeks. When I got her she looked a little bloated but I wasn't sure if that may have been her eggs. Anyway, she did well in her new sorority (was the alpha at first) and a good eater, but 3 days ago got sick. I thought she might be constipated, as none of my fish are good poopers:)

I fasted her, then 2 days ago isolated her and have been treating with epsom salt and daily water changes. Still no poop. Still fasting her. Folks on here don't recommend it but I did try the pea thing, and she would not eat it.

This afternoon she looks worse, laying on her hammock in her hospital tank, she has some respiratory distress now, which is new. I wish I could save her. I don't think she will make it thru the night.

If anyone thinks they can help, please reply.

None of the girls in her original tank display signs of sickness (10 gal heated filtered).
She has been fed omega pellets and occasionally omega flakes. Has fasted for 3 days, no poop. The parameters of her original tank were all normal. Temp stays at about 80.

She is now in a hospital tank, filtered 2.5 gal that is filled up about 1/2 so she can get to the top easily. Parameters are normal in this tank. Temp is 82. Treating with epsom salt. Belly is a bit white but not cottony. She's a bit swollen I think, and pale. Otherwise no color changes, scales are normal.

If anyone thinks they can help save her, I'm up for advice please!

I'm using 1/2 tsp per gallon of epsom. She is panting. ie at the top of the tank, "puffing". With an increased resp rate.

Please help!

You can try some Daphnia. It helps with the digestive system and she is more likely to eat it than the pea.

Sorry you are having trouble

1/2 tsp/gal isn't enough for a treatment dose. It's more of a slight preventative dose.

Try upping it to 1 tsp/gal and then to 2 tsp/gal. You should see some pooping begin after the better part of a day. Remember to do 100% daily changes while usign teh salt and adding the same dose in after dissolving it in treated water.

I'm having the same problem with my boy. Left him with my family when I went out of town and when I returned he wasn't pooping, had SBD, and was breathing fast. Epsom salt helped him poo a bit, and now he's pooing at a normal rate, but still listless and still panting. Out of the epsom salt now and I have no idea what to do. It's been several weeks now.

Good luck with your boy freeflow, and thanks everyone for the advice.

Pandora passed away last night:( I knew she was going to, she had that look. I kept her at my bedside all night so she could be with me when she left.

I'm not entirely sure what she had- She was pretty bloated when I bought her from LPS about 2 wks ago, and it's possible she was already sick. She never did poop.

I will miss my sweetie.

So sorry about Pandora. :( At least you could have her near you when she passed.
