Jail break

Currently Iím housing two HM males in my larger sorority tank in those hang-on breeder boxes.

Today the male I intended on conditioning ready for spawning, escaped when his box fell in while I was cleaning.

Since it is a big tank, it took me a while to shepherd him back into his box (he eventually found it on his own), but not before Iíd taken a few photos of his adventure.

I donít think he knew what to make of so many females. He did two flares and then just spent most of his time eating and exploring. One of the CTs got a chunk of his tail, hence the grey-looking spot (don't worry, it's not the 'mystery disease' or fin rot)

As you can see from his expression, he wasnít so confident outside his little house. Iím just hoping he isnít too much of a wuss once I get him out into the spawning tank.

This last one is of him evading capture. I swear they know when you are trying to catch them.

Thanks. He's not perfect but hopefully with the right female he's going to improve on himself.

I got him from a guy interstate who knows someone with an import license and gets a whole heap of decent quality bettas in every 1-2 months.

I hate to point it out but on its caudal fin I notice it has some grey edging the leads me to wonder if it is the unknown Betta disease that only affects blue fish. :X Here's more info: http://www.bettafish.com/showthread.php?t=90086 Hopefully it's just me freaking out xD

It's not don't worry. I said that in my top post.

A couple of my males get dark grey/black when they tail bite or are chomped on. I think it must just take the top layer of scale/flesh off.

He went into the water sprite with his tail intact and came out looking a little the worse for wear.

Thanks, I'm still umming and ahhing about selling the motley females out of this tank and just having my nice sorority. They are cute though, so it's a hard decision to have to make.

Glad to report the male's tail has already healed up. He's now working on a bubble nest and flaring at the girls from his little box.

To make a new thread, you have to go onto the board ie. Betta Diseases and Emergencies, and there should be a little button in the top left corner that will allow you to create a new thread.

However, because you are worried, could you answer as many of these questions as you can so we can help work out what is wrong:

Housing
What size is your tank?
What temperature is your tank?
Does your tank have a filter?
Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration?
Is your tank heated?
What tank mates does your betta fish live with?

Food
What type of food do you feed your betta fish?
How often do you feed your betta fish?

Maintenance

How often do you perform a water change?
What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change?
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change?

Water Parameters:
Have you tested your water? If so, what are the following parameters?

Ammonia:
Nitrite:
Nitrate:
pH:
Hardness:
Alkalinity:

Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed?
How has your betta fish's behavior changed?
When did you start noticing the symptoms?
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how?
Does your fish have any history of being ill?
How old is your fish (approximately)?
