That looks like a Eichhornia crassipes, commonly known as Common Water Hyacinth . The roots system is similar to the Pistia stratiotes, is often called water cabbage, water lettuce.

Both species grow best placed in packs tightly together. If you only have one in a vast area, they're leaves will slowly drop, their buds (new plants) will become smaller or they will die (specially the water hyacinth). Water lettuces usually will be as small as a US pennyand fill the whole area like frogbits(?)

I would use something like anacharis, duck weed, and horn wort for spawning tanks.

My bettas are better than ever! I will be spawning platinum marbles, whites, blues, salamanders, purple gases, white big ears, and reds once all my fish arrive.
